Bio-Diesel Users Beware

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Many farmers and large users of diesel fuel have gotten on the band to manufacture their own bio-diesel and save money on fuel costs. Universities are even running seminars to teach individuals how to make bio-diesel. Bio-diesel is obviously going to have a steady future, however with any new product serious problems can arise and that is what this article is about. Using bio-diesel at no more than 20% and even less in winter causes no serious problems. However, users putting in more than 20% bio-diesel are asking for big problems. You may think B100–straight bio-fuel you need to realize that the properties of this fuel are quite different than that of diesel fuel. When B100 is used, there is a much greater tendency for fuel to find its way into the crankcase, creating a much larger amount of fuel dilution. Fuel dilution is very serious as pre-mature bearing failure can take place causing major expense in an overhaul. There is also a greater likelihood of gellation at low temperatures due to excess fuel dilution. Historically, there have been problems with methyl esters in engine oil attacking certain bearing materials, primarily copper-lead. With this in mind corrosion is a very huge concern to engine oil formulators. If you are using B100 or pure bio you will need stronger corrosion protection, way more pour point depressants, increased anti-foam additives, and probably some way to emulsify water since that will create even more problems in the crankcase. If you are going to use B100 I recommend a high TBN oil package of at least 10 TBN like SFR 100 with its ability to protect against corrosion and it will emulsify with water so that critical engine parts will stay protected. SFR 100 is an oil fortifier formulated to be used at 1 ounce per quart of motor oil. In addition, and most importantly you must use a diesel fuel additive with cetane improver and increased detergents like SFR’s all season multi-functional diesel fuel conditioner. B100, though having great lubricity, has very poor detergent ability to keep injectors clean. In conclusion, if you are going to use B100 in your diesel engines, make sure you use an oil fortifier in addition to a multi-functional diesel fuel conditioner or you might experience a major engine failure prematurely, which will cost you all that you saved in using the B100 in the first place and even more. Be smart and protect your B100. SFR products can be found at www.sfrcorp.com.

Chains need special Lubricants like ProTecta Oiler

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Chain maintenance whether on a bicycle or motorbike is one of the most controversial subjects between mechanics. The major cause of chain “stretch” is wearing away of the metal where the rivet rotates inside of the bushing (or the “bushing part of the inside plate) as the chain links flex and straighten as the chain goes onto and off of the sprockets. Premature chain fatigue can be a real problem and effect gear shifting and performance.

First one must be aware of the three points where a chain needs lubrication. First, and foremost, the rivets need to be lubricated where they move inside the inner links as the chain bends and straightens. Second, the insides of the rollers need lubrication to let them revolve freely around the bushings as they engage and disengage in the sprocket teeth, which can cause accelerated sprocket wear. Third, the surface where the outer side plates overlap the inner side plates can benefit from lubrication as well, although this contact surface is much more lightly loaded than the first two.

The problem with lubricating conventional chains is that thick lubricants cannot penetrate into the inaccessible parts where they are really needed, but thin lubricants do not last long enough in most cases. Due to the speed of the chain grease or oils fortified with tackifiers should not be used as they will attract dust and dirt and will only add to the problem of premature wear. Light oils will be thrown off due to the speed of the chain and spalling will take place on the rollers. For high-speed chains there is only one type of lubricant that can be used that will stay on the chain and not attract an inordinate amount of dust and dirt. Such a lubricant must be thin and contain additives called extreme pressure agents. An extreme pressure agent is acidic and thus attaches to the metal and is resident at all times. Extreme pressure agents can carry loads up to 800 kilograms, which is a tremendous amount of pressure. I found such a product that is absolutely ideal for chains. The product is named ProTecta Precision Needle Oiler, by SFR Corporation, who specializes in extreme pressure technologies. In checking the testing, this product beats the testing parameters of the 4 Ball Extreme Pressure Test ASTM D 2783 as it exceeds the 800 kilogram limit. It comes in a half-ounce container where only a drop is required on each of the rollers. The product almost dries however I on our bearing test machine Corporation that the product takes a tremendous load even when what appears to be dry. This product lasts for at least three months and is outstanding for chains. Upu can find this product at the SFR Corporation website at www.sfrcorp.com. This is a remarkable product for chains as it is a synthetic and will withstand heat as well.

A & B Transmission recommends SFR

Friday, August 17th, 2007

This was sent to me from Gary Reynolds in regards to a customer of his Brad Miller, who is the owner of A & B Transmission in Shelley, Idaho. Brad was initially skeptical of using an additive, but because he was friends with Gary Reynolds, SFR Distributor he decided to try SFR in his personal vehicle. He owns a late model Dodge Durango and drives to New Mexico a few times each year to visit relatives. The Durango consistently averaged 18.5 miles per gallon. He used the SFR Engine Treatment just before leaving for New Mexico recently. The following Monday after returning, he called Gary with the following: The first thing out of his mouth was I’m a Believer Now!!” The first change he noticed was that a persistent clicking noise had disappeared. The next thing that really sold him was the gas mileage jumped to 21.5-22 mpg, He is telling everyone he deals with about SFR now. Too many people think this is a gimmick but its not. It really works and with gas/diesel prices as high as they are now, everyone should be using SFR.

Oil Filter Gone, but no Damage to Engine

Monday, July 30th, 2007

The owner of Practical Rent-a-Car in Bozeman, Montana wrote that one of his cars was driven over ten miles with no oil filter. Upon inspection of the engine the crankshaft and rods were still in good shape. The car is still in use. Relayed that SFR ProTecta saved this engine from a major overhaul.

SFR’s oil additive protects gearboxes

Friday, June 15th, 2007

To Whom it May Concern:

Cornelison Farms started to use SFR in October, this was the beginning of our harvest season. We operate a 3000 acre farm and average losing 3 to 4 gearboxes a year on potato combines and crossovers. Before starting to harvest the potatoes we put SFR oil additive in all gear boxes and we did not lose even one. The only thing we can contribute this success is to using SFR.

We had one gearbox that came from the factory with no oil in it. Not knowing this, we put 6 ounces of SFR in the gearbox. This dug about 100 acres before the casing split in half. The gears and bearings, keeping the friction from breaking them also.

We are firm believers that the SFR oil additive has saved us 3 to 4 gearboxes. We use it in all machinery where friction is involved.

SFR registers new Trademark SFR Green

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

SFR Corporation, corporate offices has announced a new trademark–SFR Green that now appears on SFR’s website and other materials.  SFR has been a leader in developing products to lessen the impact on the environment.  Robert Sanborn President of SFR Corporation said that we are working in an industry that is critical to the economy, and that is maintaining equipment and vehicles to last longer and perform better.  We must do so in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner.  For this reason, SFR has been instrumental in developing such products as ProTecta smoke free 2 Cycle synthetic oil and ProTecta Complete Fuel System Treatment.  ProTecta Complete Fuel System Treatment is the first product on the market to actually increase mileage and reduce emissions on a new car.  Many products claim cleanup and a resulting increase in mileage, but no other company has developed a product to improve the mileage of a new car.  This technology that improves fuel economy and reduces emissions has been validated by a major oil company in extensive testing.

SFR has focused its research and development in introducing products that are environmentally friendly or lessen the impact on the environment in comparison to other products on the market.  SFR’s D-SOL Diesel Fuel Conditioners have been formulated to be used with bio-diesel fuels.

Look for additional products as SFR introduces additional environmentally friendly products.  The technologies are being introduced to lessen the impact on the environment as we all must do our part in protecting the planet, thus the new strategic statement by SFR, “Peformance Technologies for a Clean Planet.”  For more information on products available go to SFR’s website www.sfrcorp.com

SFR reduces electricity consumption in air conditioners

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

This letter will introduce Ron Kight, an SFR Distributor who informed me that we could extend the life of our air conditioners.  In testing one building (16 units), serviced by one meter we checked and recorded the meter reading for 24 hours before treating the air conditioners.  We then treated the units, checked and recorded the meter reading for an additional 24 hour period discovering we had saved an astonishing 80 kilo watts on the building.  We monitored the meter for an additional five days with a continued savings of 80 kilo watts per day.

Because of these results we decided to treat all 192 A/C units at Wildewood and are looking foward to saving thousands of dollars in electricity, maintenance, and repairs from day one due to the use of this product.

I highly recommend that you give this product a try and the sooner you start the sooner you will save.  Signed Jeff L. Curry, Owner/Broker Performance Properties, San Angelo, Texas.

SFR Grease Solves Company Problem

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

I am writing to you in regards of your excellent product SFR (Superior Friction Reduction) grease.  My company is  manufacturer of mulch products.  We use large tub grinders in the processing of many of our products.  One of our biggest problems in the past was maintaing the bearings in these tub grinders.  On the recommendations of the manufacturer, we were told to pump grease into the bearings until it pushed out through the seals.  This would push out the dirt that would build up inside the bearings, causing them to wear out.  Unfortunately, this also broke the seals that kept the grease in the bearings.  We then found that conventional greases would melt due to the heat that built up, and leak out of the seals, causing the bearings to wear out quickly because there wasn’t any lubrication left.

We were constantly trying different products, and were ready to give up hope for a grease that could take the punishment yet maintain its lubrication properties, when we discovered SFR grease.  We have found that your product seems to draw itself to heat, thereby increasing lubrication to the areas that need it most.  Since we have started using SFR grease we have been able to extend production time of our tub grinders and reduced our maintenance cost on replacement bearings.  I have been recommending your products to everyone, and plan on using SFR grease as our only grease, unless of course you come out with an even better product.  Signed James Weber, President Ohio Mulch Supply Inc.

SFR 100 Excels in Fleet of Trucks

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

I would like to thank you for your demonstration of SFR.  Since using your product in our fleet of trucks we have seen an increase on fuel mileage over the entire fleet.  SFR was added to the engine oil, differential and power steering pumps of all the trucks.  Overall the mileage gain averaged out to 1.59 mpg on the vehicles that could be accurately checked, (some of our trucks are used for personal issues and cash is paid for gas with no record made of gallons used).

I would also like to tell you about one truck that came into the shop for planned maintenance that less than one quart of motor oil was drained from the oil pan. When the driver was asked why he had not checked the oil he said “I only check it when the valves start to tick, “I thought the oil pressure gauge was broken and that was why it read low”.  SFR saved this engine for us!  This savings alone covered the cost of the SFR products we bought in a year.  Thank you for a great product, Sincerely yours, Bill Rice fleet manager for W.A. Lynch Roofing Company Inc. of Charlottesville, VA.
