Oil Filter Gone, but no Damage to Engine

Monday, July 30th, 2007

The owner of Practical Rent-a-Car in Bozeman, Montana wrote that one of his cars was driven over ten miles with no oil filter. Upon inspection of the engine the crankshaft and rods were still in good shape. The car is still in use. Relayed that SFR’s ProTecta Engine Treatment saved this engine from a major overhaul.

My Trencher Lost its Oil, I Think it’s the Additive

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

I received a call from an automotive supply dealer with my trencher lost its oil, and it’s the additive you sold me. He said the customer put in the product and in only a half hour there was no oil. The individual panicked and thought it was the additive. I asked for an oil sample so we could send it to WearCheck an independent lab in NC. Until the sample comes, which will give us a more definite picture of the state of the trencher engine, lets look at the possible causes. (more…)

1989 Ford Dually loses oil pump, SFR saves engine

Monday, July 9th, 2007

This blog entry concerns a 1989 Ford Dually, 460 Cubic Inch gasoline engine that was pulling a 26′ car trailer
Being an avid user of SFR oil additive to a number of years; One early morning, (2:00 am), while driving back from Columbus, Ohio, show, I stopped for gas in Osseo, Wisconsin. After getting back on I-94 my oil pressure dropped to 0 and my oil light came on. I need to mention that it was about 10 degrees outside. I stopped and rechecked my oil, everything was ok in that there was no engine noise. I decided to finish my 55 mile trip home running at the speed limit of 65 mph.
Later that morning I went out and put on another mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. At 1500 rpm I only could get 2 psi. I pulled the pan and checked the bearings, and they were good as new, thus I went to town and bought an oil pump.
I ended up driving it another year before a friend talked me out it. It had 215,000 miles and that was 7 years ago. He still has it, also uses SFR, and yes still the same motor with over 600,000 miles on the odometer.

Foam Inhibitors

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Air is whipped into the oil by rapidly moving engine parts. Air is also trapped in the oil during high-pressure or when the pump sucks air in with the oil. The result is a mass of oily froth called foam. The presence of small amounts of water increases this engine oil problem. The basic cure is an engine design that prevents air from being whipped into the oil and excludes water. Even the best design, however, will not eliminate foaming completely. (more…)
